Care Centre for Street People in St. Bess

The St. Elizabeth Parish Council, has established a care centre to provide refuge for street people in the town on Black River.

The facility, located at 58 High Street, will be officially opened on Thursday, December 2 and members of the public are being invited to attend.

Minister of Local Government, Community Development and Sports, Portia Simpson-Miller will be the guest speaker at the opening.

Chairperson for the St. Elizabeth Care Committee, Joyce Francis told JIS News, that her group would be charged with the overall responsibility to manage and monitor the new centre.

Mrs. Francis stated that the committee was “very serious” about its mandate and motto of “lending a helping hand for those on the streets”.

“Please come out and support this very worthy activity that has been on the board for a long time but which we know will certainly go a long way to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters,” she stated.
