Canadian Airline Makes Inaugural Flight to Montego Bay

A Canadian airline, WestJet, has launched a series of new flights to the Caribbean, with its inaugural flight to Montego Bay from Toronto, and Canada on(December 10).
Passengers who turned up for WestJet Airlines Flight #1102 at Gate C-41 at Pearson International Airport were greeted with calypso music, dancing girls and limbo.
Vito Culmone, WestJet’s Executive Vice President of Finance, thanked the passengers for making the inaugural flight a sold out one.
“WestJet is Canada’s preferred airline and we are pleased to be flying to Jamaica. This is a wonderful destination for us. We pride ourselves on our friendly service and we thank you for flying with us,” he said.
Jamaica’s Consul-General, Anne-Marie Bonner and Jamaica Tourist Board’s Regional Manager, Sandra Scott were also on hand for the take-off.
“We are happy that WestJet, as the preferred airline in Canada, has partnered with the preferred destination in the Caribbean,” said the Consul-General. She assured the passengers that they were in excellent hands.
Many of the passengers on the inaugural flight were Jamaicans who had flown into Toronto from other parts of Canada, such as Norinne and Michael Wong from Calgary, Alberta. The couple, who have been living in Western Canada since 1981, were very excited to be on the inaugural flight.
“We didn’t want to miss this at all,” said Michael. “Even though we are going to Kingston, we will spend tomorrow at Doctor’s Cave Beach and then drive to Kingston,” he said.
WestJet will make three flights per week to Jamaica, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday until May 2008.
