February 22, 2007

The Full Story

As the countdown to ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007 continues, the legacy programme being executed by Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited (C&WJ) is well underway.
Speaking with JIS News, Head of Sponsorships and Special Events at Cable and Wireless, Towa Beer explained that the programme, which is being carried out in two phases, includes a national way-finding and signage programme, and the refurbishing of Faith’s Pen.
The national way-finding and signage programme is being carried out in conjunction with the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) and involves the replacement “of all the way-finding signs across the island of Jamaica with new ones branded C&WJ and TPDCo,” she explained.
The islandwide signage replacement stretches from Kingston to the North coast and continues all the way around to the South coast. This national exercise will be completed by February 27.
Another aspect of the legacy programme, which will be undertaken for Cricket World Cup, is the refurbishing of Faith’s Pen.
“This refurbishing project will see a completely new look for the venue,” Ms. Beer informed adding that it will include a new parking area, a new dining area, painting, fencing, and other amenities.
The Special Events Head noted that while the refurbishing exercise will be completed for Cricket World Cup, C&WJ would continue developments at Faith’s Pen to benefit the community as well as the people and tourists who visit the location.
Ms. Beer stated that plans are in place for a permanent booth to be established at Faith’s Pen where persons will be able to have access to C&WJ products and services.
The company is looking at long-term plans geared at “helping vendors to learn more about our products and increase their skill awareness through training and service”, Ms. Beer added.
Additionally, C&WJ has set up a special phone line (819-TRIP/819-8747) “which will allow visitors and locals alike to dial in to hear the voices of our own celebrities telling the stories about Jamaica, cricket, and how you can take advantage of what’s happening with Cricket World Cup,” she disclosed.
“With Cricket World Cup coming to the Caribbean for the first time, it was important for C&WJ to be at the front line.it is not just about today’s efforts but about how we can improve sports for everyone in Jamaica,” Ms. Beer noted.
