Cabinet Continues Budget Preparation

The Honourable Olivia “Babsy” Grange, Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports has advised that today’s meeting of the Cabinet focused on the Expenditure side of the 2009/2010 Budget.
Minister Grange said that between now and Thursday of this week (March 26) when the Cabinet will hold a special meeting on the Budget, ministers, their permanent secretaries and technical staff will take a final look at their proposed expenditures. At the Thursday meeting, the Cabinet will sign off on the Estimates for the 2009/2010 Budget.
She said Prime Minister Bruce Golding had asked his ministers to bear in mind the present unfavourable global economy as they cast their budgets and to select three areas of priority on which they would concentrate during the coming financial year.
The Prime Minister urged the ministers to ensure that the programmes of their ministries were “tight and efficient.”
Minister Grange said that since the Cabinet did not follow the usual agenda today, the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing will not be held tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25thth.
