October 9, 2010

The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a variation of US$270,000 on the contract awarded to PriceWaterHouse Cooper Private Limited, India, for enhancement of the management system for the Programme for Advancement through Health and Education (PATH).
The announcement was made by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, during Wednesday’s (October 6) Post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
“Of the total variation, US$86,324 is due to changes that were made to the scope of activities and the remaining US$183,945 is due to the increase of the contract duration,” Mr. Vaz said, noting that the original contract was US$522,500.
Cabinet has also approved the provisions of insurance placement services for the risk portfolio of the Jamaica Library Service to Allied Insurance Brokers Limited.
Mr. Vaz said that the contract period is expected to last from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2013, with the first year premium being $10,287,034.
Additionally, he informed that Cabinet approved amendments to the Income Tax Act, the Revenue Administration Act as well as the issuing of drafting instructions to the Chief Parliamentary Council.
The amendments seek to resolve a conflict between Section 70 of the Income Tax Act, which allows expansive power to obtain information, and the Revenue Administration Act, which is more restrictive.
