Cabinet Approves Contracts for Infrastructural Works

Cabinet has approved the award of a US$1,026,841.54 contract for the procurement of liquid chlorine through the National Water Commission (NWC).The contract has been awarded to Joan’s Chemicals Inc. for the supply of 598 containers of one- tonne liquid chlorine drums.
In addition, a US$273,574 contract has been awarded to Elster AMCO Water Inc. of Puerto Rico for the supply of electromagnetic flow metres, associated components, and spares for the NWC’s Kingston Water and Sanitation project.
Minister of Transport and Works, Michael Henry who made the disclosure at Wednesday’s (July 2) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, further informed that Toyota Jamaica Limited has been awarded a contract of $19.572 million for the provision of eight four-wheel-drive motor vehicles to the Ministry of Education’s transport unit and regional offices.
Cabinet also approved a contract valued at $20.875 million for Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Jamaica Limited for the supply and commissioning of two server towers and virtualization software for the Bank of Jamaica.
Additionally, Maxwell Construction Company Limited, has been awarded a $22 million contract for the execution of infrastructure works at the proposed Leeds Housing Development in St. Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, a contract, valued at US$373,100 has been awarded to Wingfoot Commercial Tire Systems, through the Port Authority of Jamaica for re-treading services for used tyre casings.
Also, Mr. Henry told journalists, that a US$303,604 contract has been awarded to Rapiscan Systems High Energy Inspection Corporation, for the provision of maintenance services for security inspection equipment at the island’s ports. This relates to the security of the ports and the movement of goods in and off the ports.
In the meantime, he informed that the proposed toll increase for the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 will become effective tomorrow (July 5). He pointed out however, that motorists will be given discounts based on how frequently they use that section of the highway.
