Cabinet has approved the award of a contract to Quality Plus Contracting Company Limited in the sum of $19,798,188 to provide skilled and unskilled labour for the provision of bunkering services.
This was announced by the Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, at the weekly post Cabinet press briefing on (July 16) held at Jamaica House.
The Minister informed that bunkering services will be provided at four locations namely the Refinery Plant and Industry Loading Rack (both located on Marcus Garvey Drive), the Montego Bay Terminal, and the Petrojam’s customer’s installations island wide.
In addition, he announced that Cabinet approved a loan of US$15 million to Norman Manley International Airport Limited (NMIAL) to help to fund new business ventures being undertaken by the organization.
“The loan is coming from the National Insurance Fund and it is at a fixed interest rate of 8.5 per cent per annum payable quarterly for the first three years. The principal is to be repaid in 68 equal quarterly installments after the initial three years,” Mr. Buchanan explained.
The Norman Manley International Airport Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Airport Authority of Jamaica (AAJ). Its principal activity is to administer, control, and manage the Norman Manley International Airport and to provide and maintain such services and facilities other than navigational services.
“NMIAL has been designated as the Approved Operator for the Norman Manley Airport and has entered into a Concession Agreement with the AAJ. NMIAL has taken the decision to implement a comprehensive Capital Development Programme costing over US$139 million to address major structural deficiencies; to provide the necessary infrastructure to meet the future needs and to create new business opportunities for the airport and country,” the Information Minister outlined.
