Cabinet Approves Contract to Protect UDC Properties

Cabinet has approved a $203 million contract to Guardsman Limited for the provision of security services for subsidiaries and properties of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).

This was disclosed by Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, at a Jamaica House Press Briefing on September 12, at the Office of the Prime Minister, in Kingston.

The subsidiaries and properties include: the Dunns River Falls and Park; Green Grotto Caves; Ocho Rios Bay Beach; Turtle River Park; Laughing Waters; Roaring River; the St. Ann Development Company’s main office; the Ocean Village Shopping Centre; and Reach Falls.

Security services include, but are not limited to: perimeter security; static security at specific entrance and exit points on the boundaries of the properties; and preventive security, which includes the searching of personnel.

"The security team will also be required to enforce parking regulations where they are applicable," the Minister said.

The contract has been awarded for a period of two years.
