Cabinet Approves Contract for Removal of Sea Floor Debris

March 16, 2012

The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a contract in the sum of US$1.45 to Titan Maritime LLC to remove debris from the sea floor at the Petrojam main dock.
Minister with responsibility for  Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, made the announcement at yesterday’s (March 14) Jamaica House press briefing, held at the Office of the Prime Minister.

The debris resulted from an accident on June 1, 2009, in which an oil tanker – The Great News – collided with the main dock, and destroyed various sections of concrete, mechanical and piping equipment.

“Cabinet was advised that a settlement amount of $12.6 million had been arrived at with the insurers as full and final payment for dock repairs,” Senator Falconer noted. The Titan contract is inclusive of a contingency sum of US$250,000.

Meanwhile, Cabinet has recommended a variation in the contract for security services from King Alarm to the Ministry of Finance and Planning’s National Heroes Circle location, as well as the consolidation of security at its Shalimar Avenue location.

The original contract was for $30.862 million, and this has been increased by $20.593 million.

“The additional expense is the result of a decision to improve and consolidate its corporate services …the variation has been endorsed by the National Contracts Commission,” the Minister said.
