The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a $45 million contract to Bacchus Construction Limited to rehabilitate and upgrade the water distribution network for the Old Harbour supply scheme.

Speaking at the Jamaica House Press Briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister, Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, informed that the project, which is being financed from the National Water Commission (NWC) operations budget, will last for six months.

"The work involves the construction, testing and commissioning into service of 2.7 kilometres of transmission pipelines starting in the vicinity of the New Harbour Village housing development and ending at the Old Harbour Bay square," she said.

In the meantime, Cabinet also gave approval for the sale of just under an acre of land to the Four Paths Seventh Day Adventist Church in the sum of $2.2 million.

"Cabinet also waived the requirement for the property to be advertised as the church had occupied the land since 1986, through a lease agreement," she said.

Ms. Falconer informed that there is a permanent structure on the land, and also that the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) had no objection to the sale.
