Cabinet Approves Appointments to Several Boards

President of Northern Caribbean University (NCU), Dr. Herbert Thompson, has been re-appointed Chairman of the Board of the Universal Access Fund Company Limited.His is one of a number of appointments to the Boards of government entities, which Minister of Information, Culture, Youth & Sports, Olivia Grange said has been approved by the Cabinet.
Speaking at Wednesday’s (December 19) post-Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House, Miss Grange said the other members of the Board are: Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Mining & Telecommunications, Dr. Jean Dixon; Christine Marzouca; Mark Hall; Nigel Henry, and Managing Director, Hugh Cross. They were appointed with effect from December 3 and would serve for two years, Minister Grange advised.
The Fund is the government entity with responsibility for collecting levies on incoming international calls. The revenue generated is designated for the implementation of the e-learning project, designed to enhance the education process through information technology.
Dr. Thompson, who is serving his second stint as Chairman, was first appointed in May 2006.
Miss Grange said Mike Fennell has also been re-appointed as Chairman of Independence Park Limited (IPL), the organization which manages the facilities at the National Stadium, National Arena, and National Indoor Sports Centre.
Mr. Fennell, who is President of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) and Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Federation, has chaired IPL since its inception in 2003.
Other appointments to sporting bodies are: David Mais, who assumes the Chairmanship of the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) as well as Silvera Castro who has been added to the Board of the Institute of Sports (INSPORT).
