Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Herbert Thompson, President of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU), to head the panel to undertake a strategic review of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
This was announced by the Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, during the post Cabinet press briefing held at Jamaica House yesterday (June 25).
He added that the review panel included both local and international experts in policing management and public sector administration.
Other members of the panel are Professor Clifford Shearing, Shirley Tyndall, Peter Moses, Hubert Williams, Noel F. Eldridge, Stephen House and Cal Corley.
Some of the objectives of the assessment process are to enhance the accountability mechanism governing the operations of the JCF; to review the management and organizational structure; and make recommendations to ensure professionalism, efficiency and enhanced competence of the force.
The Information Minister told journalists that the process is the final leg of a strategic review within the national security system.
