The Jamaica Library Service (JLS) is set to receive some 400 computers, UPS units and application software, in an effort to improve the efficiency of its information technology systems.

Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer said Cabinet has approved a contract for  Management Service Systems to supply 400 computer systems, 400 licences of Microsoft Office 2012, 400 licences of Norton Anti-virus, and 400 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units to the JLS.

The Minister was speaking on Wednesday (September 19), during the Jamaica House press briefing, held at the Office of the Prime Minister.

Ms. Falconer also pointed out that Cabinet has recommended that investigations be carried out to ascertain if the local expertise is available to put together the information technology systems at lower costs, and that the JLS collaborates further with the Universal Service Fund with a view to driving down the costs.

The JLS is also to investigate whether savings could be derived through existing government agreements through Microsoft for the use of their software.
