Business operators and residents in Westmoreland and from nearby parishes are invited to participate in the National Housing Trust (NHT) Compliance 365 Expo on February 21, starting at 9:00 a.m.
This event, which will take place at the Savanna-la-Mar Methodist Church, forms part of a series aimed at promoting and enhancing compliance among micro, small and medium-sized business operators.
Speaking with JIS News recently, Compliance Manager at the NHT, Garth Evans, said the expo is designed to provide participants with access to critical business services in one convenient location.
It offers on-the-spot consultations and services from entities such as Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), the Companies Office of Jamaica, JN Small
Business Loans, C&WJ Cooperative Credit Union, HEART/ NSTA Trust, the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, and the Westmoreland Regional Health Authority.
“Compliance is not a one-off thing. We want persons to think of compliance on a daily basis. What we are trying to do is to get the message out there, highlight the benefits of compliance, and show how it can make life easier for business operators,” Mr. Evans told JIS News.
The Compliance 365 Expo began in 2023 in Ocho Rios and has since travelled across the island, making stops in Kingston, Montego Bay, Clarendon, and Manchester.
Mr. Evans noted that its impact has been significant, with more business operators taking steps towards regularising their affairs.
“What we have seen is that the message is getting out there. More persons are coming into our offices, making inquiries, and ensuring their accounts are up to date. We are seeing improvements, and we are satisfied that the initiative is yielding positive results,” he noted.
Business owners who may be unsure about their compliance requirements or need assistance in getting registered are strongly encouraged to attend.
“However, we encourage everyone who can attend to come down to the expo. Bring along your National Insurance Scheme and Tax Registration Number documents, as these will help us find the relevant information you may need. Our goal is to assist as many persons as possible in getting and staying compliant,” he said.
