Brown’s Town Vendors Urged to Pay Market Fees

October 9, 2003

The Full Story

Vendors at the Brown’s Town Market in St. Ann are being urged to pay their weekly market fees, and to clear all arrears, in a bid to reduce the outstanding sums owed to the market.
The call came from Ian Boyd-Brown, St. Ann Parish Council Commercial Services Manager, at a public meeting, organised by the St. Ann Parish Council, at the Brown’s Town Anglican Church Hall, to provide the community with a status report on the refurbishing exercise at the Brown’s Town Market, and to introduce the new “arrears police” of the Council.
Mr. Boyd-Brown told the gathering that all vendors who paid their arrears within three months, from October 27, would benefit from a 20 per cent discount.Noting that the Council had designed a new system for the reduction of arrears in markets, Mr. Boyd-Brown pointed out that markets were required to fund themselves, and so the funds collected were to be utilized for that purpose. Explaining the procedure for current weekly payments, the Commercial Services Manager said, “after one week of non-payment, you will be notified of this. After two weeks of non-payment, another notice will be served in order to follow-up on appropriate procedures, and after three weeks of non-payment, some other action will be taken, because it is not the Council’s intention that money is owed”.
