The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a proposal from the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) to acquire properties at Hagley Park Road, Kingston, to relocate their head office.
Speaking at Thursday’s (May 6) Post Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House, Information Minister, Hon. Daryl Vaz, noted logistical challenges which the BGLC is currently experiencing in executing activities from its current head office at nearby Ruthven Road.
The properties identified are situated at 78A and 78C Hagley Park Road, and cost approximately $240 million, “The lack of adequate accommodation at the BGLC’s current locations have proven counter-productive, and is delaying several initiatives to improve its efficiency, including restructuring and implementation of an information and communication technology (ICT) programme,” Mr. Vaz said.
A statutory body established in 1975, under the provisions of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Act, the BGLC is responsible for the impartial regulating and controlling of betting and gaming operations, and conducting lotteries islandwide.
