The Full Story

Attorney General, Hon. Patrick Atkinson, said his office is up to the task of providing effective legal advice to the Government when necessary.

“I wish to categorically state that the Attorney General’s Chambers is a professional, high-quality law office which is up to the task of supporting me to give effectively and correctly, advice to the Government of Jamaica,in these times when we expect mega investments such as issues concerning the China Harbour Construction Co. and UC Rusal,” Mr. Atkinson said.

The Attorney General was speaking on July 18, during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.

He said that staff is being boosted, with the recent approval of the appointment of Mrs. Nicole Foster-Pusey as Solicitor General. Mrs. Foster-Pusey's appointment takes effect from August 7, 2012.  He urged that other vacancies be filled quickly, so that the office can effectively carry out its work.

In the meantime, Mr. Atkinson said he will be giving the government the benefit of his experience as a trial lawyer and will be appearing in court as counsel in appropriate litigation.
