Angler makes Big Catch in Canoe Fishing Tournament

Angler, Voston Sewell, made the biggest catch, a 130-pound marlin, in the 19th Port Antonio canoe fishing tournament, which was held yesterday (October 1).
The catch, which was made on board the canoe, ‘Shabba’, earned him the Magnum Tonic Wine trophy, and a Yamaha boat engine donated by Supreme Ventures Limited.
Second place went to Frederick Smith, who landed a 97-pound marlin on board ‘Bredda’, while third place went to Everton McLeary, who caught a 25-pound wahoo on board ‘Evadne’.
They were presented with prizes by the RJR Communications Group and Digicel.
Other prize winners were Wain Williams, who received a cash prize for landing the heaviest dolphin; Lincoln Mitchell for catching the heaviest King Fish; Radcliffe Gayle for catching the most fish, and Earl Beal for the second highest catch.
A total of 21 canoes and 68 Anglers participated in the tournament, which was held as part of the 40th Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament,which began on Monday, September 30 and will end on Friday, October 3.
The prizes were presented during a short ceremony held at the Old Port Antonio Marina at the end of the competition.
Addressing the function, Mayor of Port Antonio, Councillor Alston Hunter, congratulated the Anglers who won prizes, and commended the others for the support they had given to the event by their participation.
He commented on the attractiveness and the high quality facilities offered by both the old and the new marinas in Port Antonio, and expressed confidence that they would play a significant role in reviving the town as a major tourist resort and visitor destination if they are used productively. Also addressing the function were Dr. Ron Duquesnay, Chairman of the Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament and Val Allen, Immediate Past President of the Portland Chamber of Commerce.
