Ambassador Vascianne Addresses Jamaicans in Minnesota

Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Stephen Vasciannie, will update nationals in Minnesota on developments in the island, including the upcoming Jamaican Diaspora Conference, at a town hall meeting on Thursday, May 9.

The meeting, slated for the Redeemer Covenant Church, is part of engagements during a four-day visit by the Ambassador to the city of Minneapolis from May 9-12.

The trip is at the invitation of the Organization of Strategic Development in Jamaica (OSDJ), which is a non-profit body dedicated to contributing to efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Jamaica.

On Friday, May 10, Ambassador Vasciannie will hold talks with Director of Pediatrics at the Minneapolis Hospital for Children, Dr. Jonna Parkins. He will also meet with the Dean at the University of Minnesota Law School, David Wippman, and other faculty members, for preliminary discussions on collaborations with the Norman Manley Law School.

On Saturday, May 11, the Ambassador will meet with Dr. Mark Gormley of the Gilletter Children’s Specialist Health Care and will have talks with Jamaican business owners, Tim Lowe and Leford Baxter.

Later that evening, Ambassador Vasciannie will address members of the Organization for Strategic Developments in Jamaica (OSDJ) at a special dinner.

The OSDJ aims to promote the development of young Jamaicans through scholarships, vocational skills training, music, drama and sports; and to create a network among medical and dental professionals and institutions in the United States and Jamaica, for the purpose of helping to improve the healthcare delivery system in Jamaica.

The organisation, together with the Jamaica Nurses Group of New York Inc., and the wider Jamaican Diaspora health sector, has been leading the effort to integrate the healthcare outreach effort of the Jamaican Diaspora and Friends of Jamaica into the strategic plan of the Ministry of Health.
