Ambassador Shirley to Speak at Mico Alumni Scholarship Banquet

Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS) Professor Gordon Shirley, will deliver the keynote address at the Annual Scholarship Banquet of the Connecticut chapter of the Mico College Alumni Association.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m., at the Sheraton Hartford Hotel, in East Hartford, Connecticut. The Ambassador is the patron designate of the event.
Ambassador Shirley is the son of the late Renford Archibald Shirley, the beloved former principal who died earlier this year and in whose honour and memory, one of two scholarships will be established. The other scholarship will be to the memory of Joy Andrews, a founding member of the Connecticut chapter, who also died earlier this year.
“The primary goal of the association is the financial support of our Alma Mater. We also provide scholarships to freshman college students of West Indian parentage, so come celebrate with us,” noted Calvin Ferrier, CT Chapter President.
Since its establishment in October 1991, the chapter has taken a keen interest in and actively supported many of the area organizations such as the Centre for Urban Research, the West Indian Foundation, the West Indian Leadership Forum and the West Indian Celebration Committee.
