Ambassador Marks Highlights Vital Role of Past Students

Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Audrey Marks says alumni organisations play a vital role in the advancement of education in Jamaica, contributing millions of dollars to improve school plants and fund scholarships.
Addressing the fifth annual dinner/dance of the Maryland Chapter of the Holmwood Technical High School Past Students Association, in Maryland, on August 4, Ambassador Marks said that, “the constant giving back of alumni associations to various institutions, have not gone unnoticed by the Government and, in particular, the Ministry of Education.”

“As a result of this assistance, many schools have better amenities and hundreds of students have received financial assistance that has helped to further their education,” the Ambassador added.
She pointed out that Holmwood ranks among Jamaica’s outstanding schools, and it was great to see the wonderful job the past students and supporters were doing to uphold the longstanding Holmwood tradition of excellence.

“Even though you have left the school, you have never forgotten to give back. It is the work of groups like the alumni associations that have gone a long way in keeping many schools up and running as efficiently as possible,” the Ambassador said.
Mrs. Marks commended the group for helping to improve the landscape of education in the parish of Manchester and in particular, Christiana.
Over the past five years, the Maryland chapter has provided just over US$25,000 (J$2.2 million) to support various athletics and educational projects at Holmwood.
