Ambassador Anderson Presents Credentials as Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the OAS

Jamaica’s newly appointed Ambassador to the United States of America (USA), His Excellency Major General (ret’d) Antony Anderson, on Wednesday (June 18), formally presented his credentials as the island’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS).
The presentation ceremony took place at OAS headquarters in Washington DC, where Ambassador Anderson was received by OAS Secretary General, His Excellency Albert Ramdin.
The event was attended by several high-ranking diplomats, including OAS Assistant Secretary General, Nestor Mendez; Chair of the OAS Permanent Council, Ambassador Benoni Belli of Brazil; Ambassadors and Representatives of various Member States, and members of the OAS Secretariat staff.
In his address, Ambassador Anderson reaffirmed Jamaica’s unwavering commitment to cooperation and solidarity among nations in confronting both existing and emerging global challenges.

He underscored the country’s enduring belief in the power of multilateralism as a cornerstone for advancing socio-economic development, ensuring multidimensional security, strengthening democratic institutions, and safeguarding human rights.
“[Jamaica] is proud to have been a member of the OAS since 1969. We look forward to deepening relations with Member States in areas of shared interest as the OAS continues to foster collaboration and solidarity,” Ambassador Anderson stated.
Secretary General Ramdin acknowledged Ambassador Anderson’s extensive experience, particularly in the field of regional security.
“You represent a country whose commitment to the OAS is both deep and enduring. Jamaica has been an active and respected voice in the defence of democracy, the rule of law, and the provision of human rights,” he said, adding that, “Your appointment… continues this strong tradition.”
Secretary General Ramdin noted that Ambassador Anderson’s leadership and experience would be invaluable as the OAS collectively navigates today’s complex and interconnected challenges.
“Jamaica has always played a vital role in amplifying the concerns of small island developing states, especially on issues of security, sustainable development, and climate resilience,” he stated.The Secretary General further described Jamaica as “a powerful advocate for consensus by law and a peaceful resolution of disputes, principles which are at the heart and the core of this hemispheric body”.
