Allocations Made for Upgrading of Fire Service

The Jamaica Fire Brigade has been allocated $80 million in the 2008/09 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives, to effect repairs to vehicles.
A sum of $40 million has also been allocated to procure equipment, such as hoses with couplings, helmets, breathing apparatus and protective jackets to be used in fire prevention and fire fighting.
The Fire Brigade has also been allocated $85 million to facilitate the repairs and maintenance of fire stations islandwide on a priority basis and to commence construction of fire stations at Port Maria (St. Mary), Barnett Street (St. James) and the Jamaica Fire Brigade training school.
In addition, $10 million has been allocated for the repair of fire hydrants islandwide on a priority basis.
