All Set for Montpelier Agricultural Show on Easter Monday

March 26, 2010

The Full Story

All is set for the 2010 staging of the Montpelier Agricultural and Industrial Show on Easter Monday (April 5), which will showcase the best of agricultural production in St. James, while providing fun and entertainment for patrons.
Organised by the St. James Association of Branch Societies (ABS) of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), the event will be held under the theme: ‘Agriculture the Answer to Recession’.
Speaking at the media launch yesterday (March 24) at the Rural Agricultural Development Authority’s (RADA) office in Catherine Hall, JAS and ABS President, Glendon Harris, said that the 2010 show promises to be the biggest and best ever, with farmers from neighbouring parishes indicating their participation.
He informed that more than 70 booths will be mounted, which will display farm produce and value-added items, including creative packaging for the local and international markets.
Appealing for public support for the event, the JAS President said it provides an opportunity for “hard working farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector to showcase what they have been doing throughout the last year and beyond.”
He said it also serves to encourage Jamaicans to support farmers and consume more local food in keeping with the JAS’ “Eat What We Grow” campaign.
The cost for entry will remain at last year’s prices of $400 for adults and $200 for children.
