May 21, 2012

The Full Story

A total of $8.5 million has been allocated in the 2012/13 Estimates of Expenditure, which is now before the House of Representatives, for the Caribbean Hotel Energy and Action Project.

The project aims to improve the competitiveness of the Caribbean hotel industry; ensure higher energy efficiency and micro generation through renewable energy programmes; and contribute to compliance with the Montreal Protocol.

As at March 2012 the project document was signed; steering committee established; terms of reference for project manager developed; and office equipment procured.

For the 2012/13 financial year the project hopes to: contract the services of a project manager; develop energy efficiency models for hotels; and conduct energy audits and walk-through assessments for the sector.

The project is funded by the Government of Jamaica and the Inter-American Development Bank and is expected to conclude in March 2013.
