December 9, 2004

The Full Story

On Saturday, December 11, some 75 persons will be recognized for completing their courses of study ranging from Government Accounting to the Fundamentals of School Management, at the annual graduation exercise of the Management Institute for National Development (MIND).
Special guest speaker at the event will be Pro Vice Chancellor and Chair at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus, Professor Elsa Leo-Rhynie.
Acting Director of Human Resource and Communications at MIND, Norman Hall told JIS News that the cohort of graduands had successfully concluded diploma, associate degree and certificate programmes. These include post-graduate diploma in General Management, and the Associate Degree in Accounting, with 19 and 13 persons graduating, respectively.
Other programmes include a diploma in Human Resource Management, which the Director of Learning, Ruby Brown noted, was a favourite, as over the years the course continually elicited good reviews from participants and client organizations alike. Twenty-nine persons will graduate from this course, while 15 students will graduate with diplomas in Project Design, Implementation and Management.
Special certificates of achievement for participants in the MIND/UWI course in Public Administration will be awarded to 47 persons.
Mrs. Brown pointed out that collaborative links between MIND and the University of the West Indies have been established since the 1970s and have grown over the years.
Another product of this collaboration is the MIND/UWI certificate in Management Studies, from which 45 participants will graduate.
Noting that most of the graduands would be public sector employees, Mr. Hall explained that public sector training “falls very well within our mandate to better prepare members of the public sector to become effective and efficient”.
“We believe that learning is a life-long experience and that it never is finished. We are open to explore all kinds of training. If you have a need at your workplace or your organization, we are quite prepared to come in and discuss how we might meet your needs, either at your place or at MIND,” he added.
The graduation exercise will also be enhanced by a musical programme from Mello Grooves Music.
