59 Students Receive School Supplies from Administrator General’s Department

The Administrator General’s Department (AGD) has provided school supplies to 59 students for the upcoming academic year.

The students, who were being rewarded for excellent performance in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), received notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, and flash drives.

Forty-six of the recipients are beneficiaries of estates being administered by the AGD, while the remaining 13 are children of staff of the department.

They also received certificates for outstanding performance in their examinations.

At the presentation ceremony held on Monday (August 29) at the AGD’s downtown Kingston offices, Administrator-General, Lona Brown extended congratulations to the awardees on their success in the respective examinations.

“I am sure at this time there is a great sense of anticipation and much youthful enthusiasm. For those moving on to high school, there is no limit to the excitement you feel.  The road taken to get there may not have been easy… and I commend you for having completed the task successfully,” Mrs. Brown said.

The Administrator General urged the students to continue to work hard as they pursue their high-school or tertiary education.

“Much of the responsibility will be on your shoulders in terms of how you progress academically. You will, therefore, be required to pay an even greater attention to your studies,” she pointed out.

She encouraged the recipients to pursue other interests that complement their studies, such as sports or the arts “as these activities will mould you into being a well-rounded person, impart social skills and build community awareness”.

The AGD administers the estates of persons who have died intestate and have left children under the age of 18 years.

It protects the interests of minors, beneficiaries and creditors of estates.
