$485 Million for Road Rehabilitation

A sum of $485 million has been allocated for road rehabilitation in the 2008/09 Estimates of Expenditure, which is now before the House of Representatives.
The project seeks to upgrade the road network through rehabilitation of 47 kilometres of road sections in areas, such as Ferris Cross to Mackfield in Westmoreland; Alexandria to Brown’s Town in St. Ann; Tom’s River to Broadgate, and Broadgate to Agualta Vale in St. Mary.
For the 2008/09 fiscal year, the project seeks to commence implementation of engineering consultancy services that is, undertake new designs and review existing designs.
The project also aims to establish a project implementation unit; undertake utilities relocation and commence rehabilitation of road sections.
The project is funded by the Government and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
