4-H Clubs to Display Range of Products at Denbigh

The Jamaica 4-H Clubs will again be joining the team of exhibitors at the 54th Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show, which gets underway in May Pen, Clarendon on Saturday, August 5.
Public Relations Officer for the Jamaica 4-H Clubs, Karelle McCormack, told JIS News that the clubs would be displaying agro-processed, agricultural and home economic products, as well as craft items.
“We will be at Denbigh for all three days.our display at the Machado building promises to be more exciting this year than in previous years, as we will have all the products made and produced by the Jamaica 4-H Clubs on display,” she highlighted.
Items that will be on show at the Machado Building, which is located in the central zone of the showground are: honey, jams, jellies, pickles, wines, cakes, pastries, house mats, crochets, pillows, plants, among others.
Miss McCormack said that for the first time, the 4-H Clubs would be placing all its items on sale, as previously, patrons were only able to view the displays and purchase some of the items.
“We will be reasonable with our prices”, she promised, “so people need only to bring their shopping bags and visit the 4-H booth.” Patrons would also be able to purchase cooked meals, prepared by the organization.
She further invited persons to visit the 4-H Clubs’ information booth, where they would be provided with information pertaining to the organization’s programmes and projects.
In addition to the display, Miss McCormack informed that the 4-H Clubs would be participating in an educational forum, to be hosted by the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).
The forum, she pointed out, would include participants from agricultural and industrial agencies. The Jamaica 4-H Clubs will be making its presentation on the topic: ‘Strategies that can be utilized to get Young People Involved in Agriculture’, which will be partly delivered by this year’s 4-H Boy of the Year, Michael Griffith.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica 4-H Clubs in collaboration with the JAS, will be hosting a two-day ‘Cook – Off’ competition, which will run from August 5 to August 7. First place winners will emerge from each day of the competition.
The event will involve some 20 clubbites from across the island, vying for the coveted titles of ‘Top JAS/4-H Chefs’ as well as prizes from Digicel and GraceKennedy Company Limited, the major sponsors of the competition.
Other activities include the annual ‘Youth in Agriculture Competition’, which is hosted by the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). The competition, which will be held on the first day of the show, will see clubbites putting their knowledge of the agricultural sector to the test in areas such as agro-processing, public speaking and a quiz.
In the meanwhile, the 4-H Clubs would be making its dormitories located at the Denbigh Training Centre, available for rental to other exhibitors. A project of the JAS, the three-day Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show will close on Monday, August 7.
