30 Projects Registered in St. Ann for Labour Day

Some 30 projects have been registered in St. Ann for Labour Day (Wednesday, May 23). Work will include the cleaning and painting of bus shelters, bushing of sidewalks, painting of pedestrian crossings and the planting of trees, among others. The parish project is the beautification of the old jail in St. Ann’s Bay.
Director of Administration at the St. Ann Parish Council, Claudiah Carter is appealing to the residents to come out and support Labour Day activities in the parish.
“The theme for Labour Day is ‘Honouring Our Ancestors: Strengthening Our Communities’, and in keeping with this theme, a number of projects have been selected by various persons within the communities in St. Ann,” she said.
Miss Carter told JIS News that several persons have indicated their interest in participating in these projects. “The members of the Police Youth Club, in particular, have indicated that they will be coming out in their numbers to participate in our parish project,” she said.
In terms of the parish project, she informed that the plan of work would include the cleaning and bushing of the area, planting of flowers and the completion of a bathroom in the area. “It has been said that the old jail was the first jail in Jamaica and the area has somewhat been forgotten, so we want to bring it back to life this Labour Day,” she said.
