Approximately 17,000 tonnes of cement will be made available from the Caribbean Cement Company this week.
This is the word from the Ministry of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce (MITEC), in conjunction with the Incorporated Master Builders Association, the Hardware Merchants Association, and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.
At a joint meeting at the Ministry today (August 14), the entities reported that of the total approximately 6,000 tonnes would be available in bulk.
Last week the cement company sold 12,064 tonnes of cement, with 3,463 being bulk, 581 in jumbo bags and the remainder equalling 188,104 bags.
The company reported that year-to-date sales amounted to 540,681 tonnes, compared with 550,642 tonnes for the similar period last year.
The entities also reported that another 8,000 tonnes of bagged cement is expected from Cuba by the end of the month, while ARC Systems is to provide an additional 7,500 tonnes of cement from a Columbian shipment it received recently.
