$167 Million to Rehabilitate Roads in Some Parishes

The Road Rehabilitation Project 2, has been allocated some $167.9 million in the 2008/09 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
The project, which is funded by the Government and the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), seeks to rehabilitate 97 kilometres of road structures in areas, such as Smithfield Bridge to Scotts Cove in Westmoreland; Sour Sop Turn to Danks, and Danks to Mears Bridge in Clarendon; Grantham to Walderston, Williamsfield to Greenvale and Highgate Hall to Stettin in Manchester.
For the 2008/09 fiscal year, the project aims to commence the implementation of engineering consultancy services, that is, undertake new designs and review existing designs.
Other targets include initiating project administration by establishing the project implementation unit; undertake utilities relocation; and commence the rehabilitation of road sections.
The project is scheduled to start this month and is to be completed by March 2010.
