The Full Story

Cabinet has approved the award of a contract in the sum of $165.8 million, to Build-Rite Construction Company Limited, for the development of 153 housing solutions at Craigton Hall, St. Thomas, on behalf of the National Housing Trust (NHT).
Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House on October 6, Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications, and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, said the housing solutions will be developed on 60 acres of land and will include serviced lots of varying sizes, ranging between 8,611 sq. ft. and 10,763 sq. ft.
On another matter, Mr. Vaz informed that a contract worth $10.6 million has been awarded to P.A. Lawson Engineering and Construction Limited to construct a boundary wall at the Twickenham Park housing development in St. Catherine, also on behalf of the NHT.
The Minister advised that the figure is a variation of the original contract sum of just over $46 million, representing a 23 per cent increase on that sum.
He said both contractors were selected based on the recommendations of the National Contracts Commission (NCC), and Cabinet’s Infrastructure sub-committee.
