The Full Story

Some 100 land titles will be handed over to recipients through the Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP) during a ceremony at the Linstead Baptist Church in, St. Catherine on Friday January 29.

This represents the 100th land title handover ceremony to be undertaken by LAMP.

The Programme aims to assist Jamaicans to obtain Certificates of Title for property they occupy, and to update the information on existing land titles.

Its successor programme, LAMP II, provides a central ‘one stop shop’ in obtaining a title at a fraction of the cost. With LAMP II, all land surveys and legal matters are dealt with in one place.

Certain government taxes and fees, such as Transfer Tax, Stamp Duty and Registration fees will be waived, so it costs the land owner less to register or update their land title.

Speaking at a function recently,  Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change Hon. Robert Pickersgill called on landowners to ensure they were utilizing the land they occupied in a sustainable manner, so that it remains beneficial not only to them, but to their children as well.

“Land is a critical natural resource. Indeed, how we utilize our land plays a critical role in the health of other natural resources including our watersheds, our water supplies, our air quality and our environment in general and is a critical component in our quest for sustainable development,” Minister Pickersgill said.

He further stated that the Government remained committed to ensuring that all Jamaicans, regardless of socio-economic status, have the ability to own “their own piece of the rock.”
