$1 Million Donated to Repair Monuments in Heroes Park

A cheque valued at $1 million has been handed over to the Ministry of Youth and Culture by Jamaica Broilers Group Limited, to repair the monuments in  National Heroes Park, in Kingston.

Youth and Culture Minister, Hon. Lisa Hanna, who received the contribution, expressed appreciation to President and Chief Executive Officer of Jamaica Broilers Group, Christopher Levy, at a recent handing over ceremony in her office, in Kingston.

The Minister  said the funds will assist greatly in  repairing  the monuments at the park on Labour Day (May 23).

National Heroes Park is this year’s designated national project for Labour Day. It will be cleaned and rehabilitated on the day. Labour Day and Workers’ Week (May 20-26), will be celebrated under the theme: ‘Step Forward…Make Jamaica Beautiful’.

In an interview with JIS News, Mr. Levy said he felt compelled to make the donation after learning about the project in an article published in a daily newspaper.

“When we saw the article and saw what was happening down there and the need for the environment to be brought back to a presentable position, we thought we could really help,” he said, adding that the funds will be used to upgrade the monuments and bring then back to an “acceptable condition."

Mr. Levy said the contribution is a “tangible way” to be involved in the project, noting that the company is planning to host a ‘Fun in the Sun’ Festival on the lawns of Heroes Park. Jamaica Broilers Group, the main sponsor of the event, has been working with the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) in organising the event scheduled to take place on July 31.
