The CAC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dolsie Allen, says the activities, slated for March 9 to 15, will be guided by four thematic areas related to: mobile service use: fair contract; value for money; and transparent billing and data privacy.

Speaking at a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank session at the agency’s Half Way Tree Road offices in St. Andrew on March 7, Mrs. Allen, informed that the week begins with a national church service on Sunday, March 9, at Hope United Church, Mona, St. Andrew, commencing at 8:30 a.m.

Beginning March 10, and over the ensuing four days, schools and targeted parish libraries islandwide will mount displays on the theme and other consumer-related topics.

On March 11, the CAC will host an outside radio broadcast at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre, in collaboration with mobile service providers, LIME, Digicel and Flow.

The National Consumers League (NCL) will stage a seminar, on the theme,  on March 12.

The week culminates on World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD), Saturday, March 15, with broadcasts of Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister, Hon. Anthony Hylton’s message on radio and television.

Additionally, the day will also be marked with a special publication in the Gleaner, Daily Observer, and Western Mirror.

Consumer International, the global governing body for consumer affairs, commenced observance of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) on March 15, 1983, to promote beneficiary stakeholders’ basic rights.

Each year, on this day, the global consumer movement unites around a common theme geared towards safeguarding stakeholders’ welfare.

Initiatives undertaken are aimed at highlighting  market abuses and social injustices undermining consumer rights, and pursuing appropriate interventions to resolve them.
