State Minister in the Ministry of Water and Housing, Everald Warmington (right), looks over document with Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann, Ernest Smith, at the ground breaking ceremony for the Cascade water supply system in St. Ann, recently.

Ground was broken recently for the completion of works on the Cascade water supply scheme in St. Ann, by State Minister in the Ministry of Water and Housing, Everald Warmington.

In his address, Mr. Warmington said the Ministry was keeping the momentum going to provide water to communities across the length and breadth of Jamaica.

He pointed out that two contracts were tendered for the works on the Cascade scheme, one valued at $3.2 million for the laying of additional pipelines to link the treatment facility to the transmission pipelines; and the other worth $9.4 million to complete work on the water treatment plant, to be undertaken by Bacchus Engineering Works Limited.

This scope of the work involves the laying of pipelines, the construction of an intake at Lower Cascade River to carry the water to the treatment plant, the construction of a filter treatment plant, fabricating and erecting a 45,000 litre storage/distribution tank, upgrading and interlinking the existing pipeline into the system to form part of the distribution network, and the construction of a lift station at Lower Cascade.

"When it is completed, you should receive a safe and reliable supply of water right in your homes," the State Minister assured, urging residents to co-operate, not only with the contractors, but with the National Water Commission (NWC), which will operate the system.
