September 25, 2004

The Full Story

The inaugural Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence, which was scheduled to take place on October 19, to honour a Jamaican athlete par excellence, has been postponed until early 2005, as a result of the dislocating effects of Hurricane Ivan.
The winner should be between the ages of 18 and 30, should have represented the country at a senior level and whose performance, coupled with quality of character, warrants national commendation.
Persons are reminded to submit their nominations on the prescribed forms, to any of the following: CHASE Fund, Institute of Sport, Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association, Jamaica Cricket Association or Sport Development Foundation. The forms are available from the organizations listed, or they may be printed from the CHASE website, www.chase.org.jm.
The awards ceremony is to be hosted by the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports, and Education (CHASE) Fund, in collaboration with the National Council on Sports.
Courtney Walsh was the first Test cricket bowler to take 500 wickets.
