Tourism Minister Calls for Urgency in Anti APD Lobby

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, says Jamaica could lose 30-50 million pounds as a result of the British Government’s increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD) effective November.
Mr. Bartlett, who is in London campaigning for a review of the classification criteria, met with British Members of Parliament (MPs) at Westminster on Wednesday (June 17) in a bid to increase lobbying at the highest level against the new APD structure.
On June 18, he met with members of the Jamaican community, travel and trade interests, at the Jamaican High Commission, to provide an update on the lobby, and to urge intensification of efforts to have Jamaica, and the rest of the Caribbean, moved to a lower band of the APD.
On June 17, Minister Bartlett was joined by Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding, who was on his way home from the ILO conference in Geneva, Switzerland, for a meeting on the issue with senior members of the House of Lords and the Commons who have large numbers of people from the Caribbean Diaspora in their constituencies .
