‘Tosh’ Week For South Florida

The life and time of the late reggae ambassador, Peter Tosh will be celebrated next week (Oct 19-26) in South Florida.
Organized by Jamaica Awareness, a South Florida-based non profit organization and King of Kings Production in Jamaica, the week of activities will highlight the works of this great artiste who was killed in 1987 in Kingston.
Titled, ‘Peter Tosh Tribute Week’, the activities will begin with a ‘Birthday Bash and Musical Tribute’ on Sunday (Oct. 19) at the Marlin Hotel in Miami. A Film/video festival will follow on Tuesday (Oct. 22) at the Florida International University (FIU) North Campus in Miami. A symposium featuring a panel of academics, journalists and musicologists will be held on Friday (Oct. 24), also at FIU. This event will explore the socio-political, philosophical and artistic dimensions of the late artiste.
The week’s activities end on Sunday (Oct. 26) with the Tosh Tribute Concert at Bayfront Park Amphitheatre.
Tosh was one of the original members of the Wailers Group along with the late Bob Marley O.D. Known for his controversial lyrics, he was also described as a powerful solo artiste whose music echoed the struggles of the poor and underprivileged in the society.
He was known for reggae greats including “Get Up Stand Up; Buckingham Palace; Legalize It; Mama Africa; Downpressor Man,” among many others.
