The Full Story

A Service of Thanksgiving for the late former Jamaica Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Vin Martin, OD, will be held at the Springfield Baptist church in Conyers, Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, August 1, commencing at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Martin, who passed away on July 23, was born on July 31, 1943 in Jackson Town, Trelawny.  He served as Jamaica’s Honorary Consul to Atlanta for 16 years, demitting office in April 2013.

The former Honorary Consul served as chairman of the Atlanta Montego Bay Sister City committee as well as chairman of the Atlanta Sister City Health Mission to Montego Bay.

Under his leadership, the Health Mission served thousands of underserved persons in Montego Bay and contributed goods and services valued at thousands of US dollars.

Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Stephen Vasciannie and Jamaica’s Consul General in Miami, Franz Hall, have paid tribute to Mr. Martin, hailing him as a source of guidance and inspiration to many Jamaicans in the Diaspora, particularly those living in Atlanta.

The body will be interred on Saturday, August 2,after a private ceremony.  Mr. Martin is survived by his widow Hazel, and sons Corey and Kieron.
