Students Receive Scholarships From JPS and Partners

As part of its continued commitment to education, the JPS and Partners Co-operative Credit Union Limited has awarded 54 high-school bursaries and two tertiary-level scholarships to students, valued at over $4 million.

The scholarships were presented during an awards luncheon at The Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston on August 11.

In his address at the luncheon, Chief Technology Officer, Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), Gary Barrow, challenged the students to think outside of the box when solving problems.
He said their visions, ideas and foresight will be critical in tackling some of the island’s problems.

“The traditional approach will not serve us in finding solutions, and that is why we must give our children the opportunity to prepare them to make Jamaica a better place,” he added.

Mr. Barrow said in this technology-savvy era, children must be introduced to new approaches that will allow them to exploit the opportunities that exist.

He urged the students to continue striving for excellence while exploiting the opportunities that will redound to the success of the country.

Mr. Barrow commended the awardees on their achievement and urged them to maximise the opportunities presented to them.

The 2016 recipient of the Albert ‘Bertie’ Morris Scholarship, Britney Forbes, expressed gratitude for the award and urged the other awardees to continue performing excellently in their academic studies.
Britney will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

This year, the Credit Union in celebration of its 60th anniversary celebrations presented a scholarship valued at $200,000.00 to final-year student at the University of the West Indies, Janice Riley.
The scholarship recipients were selected through applications submitted by their parents.
