The Minister of National Security, Hon. Peter Bunting has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the security arrangements being put in place by the Security Forces, in collaboration with the United States Secret Service, to welcome and host the visit of President Barack Obama and CARICOM Heads of Government.

The Minister and his Permanent Secretary were briefed, on the security and logistical plans surrounding the visit, by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commissioner of Police along with their support officers earlier today.

The Minister pointed out that among the security initiatives being implemented is the immediate call out of the National Reserve of the Jamaica Defence Force to strengthen security around the visit as well as to assist in wider crime prevention efforts across the country.

The public should be aware that traffic diversions and road closures will be put in place and that further specific updates will be issued closer to the visit. Additionally, air space control measures will be communicated by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Jamaica on April 9.
