SADCo to Host Cricket Village in Ocho Rios

The St. Ann Development Company Limited (SADCo), will be hosting the Ocho Rios Cricket Village for the duration of the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) matches, which begin next month.
This will be done in collaboration with the parish’s Chamber of Commerce and the St. Ann chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA).
The launching of the village will take place on Wednesday, February 21 at the Turtle River Park in St. Ann.
Angela Strudwick, Manager for the Ocho Rios Bay Beach, an entity of SADCo, told JIS News that the village would allow Jamaicans as well as visitors to the island to be entertained with a wide range of cultural performances.
She further informed that there would be a ‘Bickle Village’, offering a wide variety of cuisine highlighting Jamaica’s wide and diverse cultural heritage.
“We will be making residents know what will be taking place over the 50 days of cricket, which starts on March 5 through to April 28. We are hoping to have a giant screen television in the park so that persons will be able to view the matches on a daily basis,” she said, adding that on weekends, beginning from March 17 to April 28, there would be a variety of other activities.
The line-up of weekend activities would include an Irish Parade to mark St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, ‘Pickney Sinting’ from March 24 to March 25, and Bands Day from March 31 to April 2.
“We’ll be taking a break on the Easter weekend (April 7 to April 8), due to the number of activities that will be held in Ocho Rios, but we’ll continue our activities with ‘Bellyful of Laughs’ from April 14 and 15, ‘Bus di Youths’ from April 21 to April 22 and on April 28, which is the final day of cricket. We’ll be having a ‘Bickle Fest’, where we will be allowing persons to sample Jamaican dishes,” she said.
Miss Strudwick is appealing to residents of St. Ann to come out and support the various activities planned for the period and help to promote the country and things Jamaican.
