The roadway from Harbour View in Kingston to Port Antonio in Portland will be widened and improved this year, under the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement programme.

This was announced by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, while delivering his 2017-18 Throne Speech in Parliament on February 9.

The Governor-General noted that the project, which is being undertaken by the National Works Agency (NWA), will also extend to the east-west toll road from May Pen in Clarendon to Williamsfield in Manchester.

He further informed that the NWA will also begin several projects to coordinate sustained growth this year, through enhanced traffic movement along major thoroughfares.

These include the Constant Spring Road to Manor Park improvement project and Hagley Park Road improvement, which will widen the existing roadway to four lanes.

In addition, he noted that the NWA will continue the implementation of the Corporate Area corridor improvements through its Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP).
