Operations at the Riverton City disposal site continue to yield success. Trucks continue to haul soil from facilities at Ferry in St Catherine and Bull Bay in St Thomas. The soil is being spread over the burnt areas to reduce smoke emission and to prevent rekindling.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) cautions that despite these successes there is still the possibility that that there could be smoke nuisance in the communities closest to the Riverton City Disposal Site.

ODPEM and the Ministry of Health are therefore continuing to advise that members of the public take the necessary safety precautions and seek medical attention where necessary. The Ministry of Health is also reporting that all Health Centres remained open today for routine services.

ï‚· Avoid undue exposure to the smoke by closing windows and doors.
ï‚· Use a clean wet rag to cover your nose and mouth to minimize the effects of the smoke.
ï‚· The elderly, children and those with respiratory issues should pay particular attention not to exposing themselves to the smoke.
