Relief Items Shipped to Jamaica

More than 8,000 pounds of relief supplies, donated by Jamaicans in South Florida, were shipped to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) last week.
The items, which are to be distributed to victims of Hurricane Dean, included large quantities of drinking water, non-perishable food, infant supplies, batteries, flashlights, toiletries, and clothing.
This shipment was coordinated by members of the Jamaican Diaspora in South Florida, spearheaded by former Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) Captain Suzanne Haik-Hynes; retired logistics and cargo executive, Neville Cuthbert; and former Miramar Commissioner, George Pedlar.
Federal Express Company (Fedex) assisted with ground logistics, packing and warehousing, while AmeriJet/ITN Consolidators handled shipping to the Jamaican destination.
A number of schools, churches, corporations as well as individuals across the Diaspora responded to the relief effort in the wake of the hurricane, which passed south of the island on August 19.
Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board member for the Southern United States, Marlon Hill, expressed gratitude to the community for its ongoing response to the emergency relief operations.
