The Full Story

Local producers of authentic Jamaican gift and souvenir items will be showcasing their products and networking with corporate entities and various industry players at the third staging of the ‘Christmas in July’ trade show.

The event, hosted by the Tourism Linkages Network and its partners, is slated for July 27 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

It will showcase Jamaican corporate gift solutions with a view to providing producers with the opportunity to access an alternative market segment, while adding uniqueness and creativity to their product offerings.

“We are accommodating these persons to showcase what it is that they have to offer to corporate Jamaica, the tourism industry, the missions and embassies,” Project Manager of the Tourism Linkages Network, Carolyn McDonald-Riley, told JIS News.

She added that new to this year’s staging will be the participation of the diaspora, as this year’s event coincides with the Diaspora Conference.

Product categories that will be displayed at the event include traditional souvenirs of all kinds; corporate, home and decorative accessories; desktop solutions; specialty foods and aromatherapy/spa products.

“We want to also introduce a line of new products and new innovations, so we will have a group of new entrepreneurs who will be displaying their new products, which will serve as corporate gifts,” Mrs. McDonald-Riley informed.

The Project Manager explained that the trade show was conceptualised out of the need to recognise and create markets for local manufacturers and producers.

“The event is an opportunity for the productive sector to be more profitable and to do more with local products. So in July, you can come and place your orders, to give manufacturers and producers the opportunity to get raw materials in, prepare designs and produce in large quantities those items that will be on display,” she said.

“It is not a show in which persons will be selling on the day, but an event to show to corporate Jamaica, the diaspora, our embassies, our hotel sector that these items can be replicated in consistent quality,” Mrs. McDonald-Riley clarified.

She added that the event allows local producers to show to potential buyers that they are open for business, ready to supply large quantities and offer quality products at the price point that they can negotiate.

Reflecting on last year’s staging, Mrs. McDonald-Riley noted that persons were very happy that they participated, with some indicating that they received orders on the spot.

Christmas in July is a collaborative effort of the Tourism Linkages Network and its partners – Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), Jamaica ManufacturersAssociation (JMA), Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), and Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA).
