The Full Story

Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness is to return to the island tonight (May 16) from an official visit to the Dominican Republic.

The Prime Minister was originally scheduled to return on Wednesday (May 17), but cut short his visit as a result of the heavy rains that have impacted the island.

Press Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Naomi Francis, made the disclosure at a press briefing held to update the nation on the impact of the inclement weather on the country, at Jamaica House, on May 16.

She also informed that on Wednesday (May 17), Mr. Holness will tour flood-affected areas of the country.

Since Saturday afternoon (May 13), the island has been experiencing persistent heavy rainfall, which has severely affected sections of St. Elizabeth, St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, Westmoreland, St. Mary, Portland and St. Ann.

There have been severe infrastructural and agricultural damage, dislocation and major inconvenience, especially for students who are sitting exit secondary examinations.
