President of the Senate Welcomes Chinese Vice President

President of the Senate, Dr. Oswald Harding, has expressed appreciation for the technical and cultural co-operation, and the various bilateral agreements between Jamaica and China.
“I [would] like to see the growth and development of cultural exchanges between our peoples,” Dr Harding said at today’s(Feb 12) meeting with Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston.
The meeting formed part of the activities marking the official 4-day visit of the Chinese Vice President.
“We are aware of your policy of developing friendly relations with your neighbors, in order to maintain and promote regional peace and stability, your mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs of other countries and your striving for peaceful coexistence, and we understand your policy of one country two systems,” he said.
Dr. Harding stated that he looked forward to even greater dialogue and greater co-operation and exchange between the two countries.
“I am also delighted to learn of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies (UWI). I hope that it can also serve the University of Technology,” he said.
